Two of the most compelling musical minds of our time come together for an evening of extraordinary chamber music. Acclaimed Ukrainian-Australian pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk and visionary violinist and artistic director Richard Tognetti share the City Recital Hall stage in a recital of breathtaking range and emotional depth.
The programme opens with Karol Szymanowski’s Mythes, Op. 30 — three hauntingly evocative tone poems that shimmer with colour and mystery, pushing the boundaries of violin technique and expression. The evening continues with Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata No. 2, a work of steely lyricism and dramatic intensity that showcases the full command of both performers.
The recital culminates in one of the great pillars of the chamber repertoire: Johannes Brahms’ Violin Sonata No. 3 in D minor. Passionate, tempestuous and profoundly moving, it is a fitting finale for two artists of this calibre.
Gavrylyuk and Tognetti bring rare chemistry and consummate artistry to every note they play together. This is an evening not simply to be attended, but to be remembered.
